The Caballero factory in The Hague is a creative and industrial business park in the Binckhorst district. The complex’s outdoor terrace offered hardly any greenery: a paved, heat-absorbing outdoor space lacking cooling, biodiversity or amenity value.
Six Jungle Blocks® were installed on the roof terrace of the Caballero Factory. These modular, lightweight units enabled intensive roof greening without exceeding the structural load-bearing capacity. The installation demonstrated that prefabricated green modules provide a practical solution to balancing weight restrictions with greening ambitions.
The project is part of the overarching Living Lab Binckhaven innovation program, where Jungle Blocks®, Wildr Dakbloemenweide en Earthkweek are installed. This is investigating how greenery on a paved roof terrace can remain healthy, even during dry periods, and how biodiversity can be increased.
