For the Municipality Barendrecht, we successfully transformed the inner courtyard of the Stadhuisplein from a paved, stone square into a green, more climate-resilient meeting place. By installing 12 Jungle Blocks, we created an immediate positive impact on both the quality of life and the ecological value of the square.
This greening project demonstrably contributes to reducing urban heat stress, improving water management, and strengthening biodiversity. At the same time, the square has been designed for functionality: integrated seating invites visitors to sit down and actively use the space.
The planting scheme includes a strong and diverse selection of multi-stem trees, including Acer campestre, Platanus × hispanica, and Alnus glutinosa. These species were carefully selected for their climate resilience, ecological value, and suitability for urban environments.
