At Prinses Margrietplantsoen in the Beatrixkwartier district of The Hague, Urban Jungle Project has installed four Jungle Blocks. The project is part of a broader greening initiative for the Beatrixkwartier, through which we are gradually introducing more greenery and trees into this bustling business district at the heart of The Hague.
The Jungle Blocks have been placed as a lightweight, modular green solution in the public realm - a smart alternative to trees planted directly in the ground. They enable urban greening in locations where traditional planting is typically not feasible, due to constraints in the subsoil, logistics, or load-bearing capacity.
What is not immediately visible: this project sits on top of a roof structure. Beneath Prinses Margrietplantsoen lies an underground car park, meaning the square effectively functions as a roof deck. This places strict demands on the weight and anchoring of every green element. Thanks to the lightweight and modular design of the Jungle Blocks, we are able to provide a suitable green solution even in these technically complex conditions, without placing any additional load on the underlying structure.
Further Expansion Across the Beatrixkwartier
The current installation is just the beginning. The Urban Jungle Project is actively working to expand the greening of the Beatrixkwartier in The Hague. With the flexibility of our modular Jungle Blocks, we can scale up quickly and efficiently - contributing step by step to a greener, more liveable, and more attractive Beatrixkwartier.
